Already has helped me determine a side effect of an herb, a side effect I couldn't find anywhere else.

I'm shipping this book back. It isn't worth the price tag given the info it provides. It is basically a regurjitation of pubmed.com research and abstracts. In fact with some of the entries I can almost read verbatim the abstract that it references. (In general I find CRC press books too pricey)

I keep checking Dr Huang's text out from our school library and photocopying different chapters. I nearly have enough to bind for my own private copy. (Is this a copyright infringement?)This book is truly an AMAZING compendium of information. I would spring for the hefty price had not a full 25 years passed since its publication. I know of nothing else even close to it in English language publishing. (If you do, please tell me!)Here is a sample of some of the fascinating (and potentially clinically useful) factoids (that you will find nowhere else, at least in the English language, to my knowledge) I especially appreciated:Yi Mu CaoSmall doses stimulate the heart;Large doses will "inhibit" it.Dang GuiWater-soluble and nonvolatile components cause stimulation;Alcohol-soluble components relax the uterus.Du ZhongIn low doses it dilates peripheral blood vessels;In high doses it causes VASOCONSTRICTION.Ju HuaAlcohol-based extract has antihypertensive effect;Water-based extract DOES NOTWu Wei ZiAntagonizes the CNS effects of caffeineAnd, oh, there is so much more.Dr Huang, maybe we could all get together and CROWD SOURCE funding for you to produce a 2015 edition? Frightfully expensive. I can't believe I paid that much. I have owned this book for more than a decade. Its worth has proven invaluable. I only wish there was a third edition on the way as surely more reasearch has been done on traditional Chinese phramacopeaia. As a Ph.D. student in biochemistry I have sought out critical references that would be accurate and legitimate treatises on the biochemistry and pharmacology of herbs. If one is truly interested in understanding the biochemistry and pharmacology of Chinese herbs, then this is the reference to purchase. Very intelligently presented in a concise scientific journal format, presenting critical and relevant studies on the herbs as they are currently understood with many references to the original research papers. I would certainly purchase other titles similar to this if their coverage of other herbs (e.g. South American, Ayurvedic) were as comprehensive, relevant, and credible as this one. Not for the herbologist interested in a hokey metaphysical distortion of truth. Ideal for the intelligent and/or educated layman that really wants to know what compounds are present in various Chinese herbs and what their activities are.Pitfalls: Some listings are very brief (less than a page) For instance the discussion of Centella asiatica is only 1/2 page and listed under antipyretic herbs and makes no mention of nootropic effects if they, in fact, exist-Nobody's perfect.

Perfect for our car trip across country. Nobody is ever too old for Mad Libs! This is a fun, silly way to have a few giggles with the people in your life.

I bought this for my granddaughter who just finished 2nd grade for something to occupy her in the car. So she can read very well, but hasn't been introduced yet to nouns, adverbs, adjectives, etc. She looked at it and wasn't impressed.....looked too much like homework to her. I helped her complete the first sheet of "fill in the words", but she didn't really catch on until she used the words in the story below it.......THEN SHE LAUGHED SO MUCH SHE WAS ROLLING SIDE TO SIDE WITH EVERY WORD INSERTED. She loved it so much that she did 4 more stories on her own. This Mad Libs never made it out to the car, and she has asked to get more!! I'm sure she will be a jump ahead of others in the 3rd grade as she is now getting familiar with sentence structure while she writes each Mad Lib story. This grandma approves!

My children love these madlibs. If you have never tried them, they are a fun interactive "game" where someone asks you for a very, noun, adjective etc. (madlibs tells you what to ask) and then they write down the random words into a story without knowing the title or the story along the way. What results is a humorous story that doesn't make sense but really makes kids laugh. We had a 14 hour car drive and this was a favorite on the trip.

These are great books. Just large enough to be easy to write in, but small enough to be convenient for travel. There are around 20 stories per book. The book gives you the option to play solo as well, which I thought was a great feature. There is a cardboard insert that acts as a clipboard, so it's easy to write in here and you don't have to search for a writing surface. The cover is colorful and glossy, protecting it from damage and spills.

My son is addicted to Mad Libs. He is 11 years old, but still loves to create crazy and funny stories using the Mad Libs format. I bought this for our recent vacation, since our trip was 8 hours. My son loved playing this, and I think that it's a great way to reinforce his grammar skills and knowledge of adverbs, adjectives, etc. But if you forget there is a "refresher" page to let you know what word is being asked and what considers a noun, verb, etc. My son didn't finish the whole, and it kept him entertained along the way. We'll be using this again for our future road trip we have planned, which will likely finish the book.

Can't wait to take our first road trip with our little one and this book. Ordered this item for my 8 year old son. He enjoyed hours of entertainment with this activity book. While stillLearning :) This activity book is a creative way to help build vocabulary, build up his verbs, pro-nouns, adjectives etc.. hours of fun while learning all the pluses!!

Some of our best laughs on a twenty-one day road trip came from this book. We would fill in a Mad Lib when everyone was getting a bit bored with the day's driving, and it would make everyone laugh - adults and teenagers. Definitely a good choice for your road trip entertainment!

Fantastic way to keep kids of whole family entertained on a long trip or just for an evening of fun. The game can really get silly and make everyone laugh. There are all kinds of versions of Mad Libs - birthday, Christmas, baby shower, Halloween etc.. I think our family has laughed their way through them all. :)

First, if I could, I would rank this as 3 1/2 stars but was not able to do so.What the previous reviewer, "Burned again.." says is true enough; a good percentage of this book is repetitive or useless drivel and joint venture back slapping. This book is in fact a co-authored type of thing where each contributor offers up their own "expertise"; whether actual or imagined. They hype their own businesses and cross promote with the others. True enough. And yes, most everyone talks about the success of their own "ebook" and what it has done for them. Clearly the ebook is their favorite method of promotion as well as product to sell.Still there is good and bad to be found here:Before you buy this book, you should know that each of these marketers are involved with the same niche market. They all offer up business advice to other businesses and entrepreneurs. They may be authors, coaches, seminar speakers, or consultants, but they are all coming from the same niche. Explains why they all got together to co-write this book. Also explains their love affair with the e-book.Much of what they write is repetitive, and frequently calling these guys "superstars" is a bit ridiculous because they are frequently small fish in a big pond. These are not the guys doing Amazon.com's marketing. Just reading about some of their credentials and successes should bring the words, "that's not that big of a thing" to your mind. But then, that is not who they are looking to sell to or looking to help. This is a book for small businesses. As for the content itself, yes there are problems with it. They are often-times repetitive in their advice and worse yet, at times promise to reveal one thing, yet divert to something else, failing to deliver on their promise.All of that being said, I did find value in this book. My own company sells products on the web, not downloadable ebooks. I am a basic level retailer. I offer products and ship them out. At first glance, this book has very little to relate to my niche. However, as I progressed through the book, I was able to glean bits and pieces that were thought provoking and excellent ideas that I could adapt and apply to my own business. For me and for my business, most of the early chapters were drivel, the later chapters were for more valuable.I look forward to adapting and implementing a number of these ideas and concepts into my own business. Take the info here for what it is worth. Know going in, that the links and references given are all to the same guys, all with a vested interest in self and cross promotion. That being said, you can take the concepts, and do your own searches for things like blog software, RSS feed software and news aggregators, email programs, list management, etc. and find what you are looking for. Going to the links provided in this book will no doubt start to cost you big bucks in a very short time.In a nutshell, this is not a one-stop fix-it solution; but in reality, what is? They are not taking your hand and stepping you through every little turn in the road. But from a viewpoint of generating ideas you can possibly apply to you own situation, I was glad that I read it.
