Review

"Candid and engrossing...It's about love--crazy, confusing love, an artist's obsessive love for his art." (The Washington Post)"Elegant...fascinating...inspiring...Anyone interested in the creative process will appreciate this thoughtful account of the life of an accomplished artist." (Booklist)“It comes as no surprise that David Hallberg’s moving and intelligent memoir should display the extraordinary qualities—of intelligence, elegance, liveliness and, yes, wit—that have marked his extraordinary dancing over the past decade. This tale of an artist’s crisis and astonishing recovery eschews any self-pity, instead taking power from the strengths characteristic of the best dancers: resilience, unsentimental self-awareness, and an inextinguishable joy. A wonderful book for balletomanes and everyone else.” (Daniel Mendelsohn)“David demonstrates well the emotional as well as physical demands of dance.” (Twyla Tharp)"Unsparing...an inside look at...the endless hours of rehearsal, the preparation that informs the tiniest of details, the constant traveling, the brief thrill of performance." (The New York Times)“An inspiring story of Hallberg's rise to the pinnacle of his profession and his battle to reclaim his career. A moving…account of every dancer's worst nightmare and the sacrifices required to overcome it." (Kirkus Reviews)“Performing as effortlessly on the page as he does on the stage, Hallberg, who returned to ABT in top form this year, writes about the technicalities of his craft with clarity and precision. Readers of every taste will find much to relish in his inspiring book (balletomanes will consume it in a couple of sittings). Should Hallberg choose to take it on when he retires, a new role may await him: writer.”  (BookPage)"What makes A Body of Work a must-read is the raw honesty with which Hallberg describes the intense lonliness of a jet-setting career, his oscillation between extreme perfectionism and uninspired listlessness, and his harrowing mindset as he faced, and ultimately overcame, what was nearly a career-ending injury." (Dance Magazine)"Compelling...for anyone who would like to get to an intimate view of the creative process and the challenges, dedication, and euphoria of being an artist....It's a book for everyone with a heart." (DC Metro Theater Arts)"Well, if you don’t tear up when he describes performing again for the first time, then you, my friend, have no heart." (San Francisco Classical Voice)

A few years ago an autobiography of David Hallberg would have seemed premature -- after all he is still dancing in companies around the world. But three years ago Hallberg suffered a devastating injury. Two surgeries didn't fix the problem. Hallberg finally flew to Australia for intense physical therapy and remained there for over a year. The book ends with Hallberg's triumphant return to the stage in the summer of 2017.Otherwise the book follows the usual outlines of a ballet autobiography. Hallberg grew up in Arizona with a normal childhood. He was bullied in school for being gay and found refuge in dance. His first ballet teacher was very strict and he also studied at the Paris Opera Ballet school for a year. He describes that being a miserable experience for him as students and teachers iced him out. And then of course he made a meteoric rise to the top. He became principal of ABT in 2006 and a principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet in 2011. His schedule was so busy that his "off days" were spent on planes. By 2014 was flying back and forth between Moscow, New York, and wherever else he was invited to dance. He ignored a nagging injury and finally danced himself to the ground. The rehab section of the book is actually the least interesting part as it's just a lot of detail about the kinds of physical therapy he received. But still, his comeback is a moving story. The most interesting thing about Hallberg's autobiography is what he reveals about his character. He is frighteningly ambitious, a relentless perfectionist, and an essentially lonely, solitary figure. His injury seemed to have been a combination of over-dancing and his own desire to dance as much as possible anyplace, anytime. He pushes himself harder than anyone to the point of self-destruction. Although he speaks glowingly of his colleagues at the end of the day they seemed to have been only that -- colleagues. They say dancing is a lonely life and David Hallberg's book confirms that suspicion.Hallberg is still very active in the ballet world so obviously he is discreet. Every colleague and artistic director is wonderful. Sergei Filin is wonderful. Kevin McKenzie is wonderful. Yuri Fateyev (Mariinsky) is so wonderful that Hallberg seriously considered going to St. Petersburg instead of Moscow. An exception: Michele Wiles, the former principal dancer of ABT. The two of them were frequently paired together because of height but they didn't get on and Hallberg describes a blowout during rehearsal after she deliberately humiliated him. His other partners (Svetlana Zakharova, Natalia Osipova, Gillian Murphy) get nothing but the highest praise. If you're looking for gossip this is the wrong book.So overall, an above-average dancer autobiography. But I feel like 20 years from now the memoir Hallberg will write will be very different.

I love autobiographies but sometimes they do not feel honest - they can make you feel as if you are reading about a caricature, not a real person (that is how I felt when reading other ballet dancers I rather not name here). David's writing is clear and honest. His self doubt, his dedication, his need for constant exploration, his fears are all out there - and is so touching that he is giving us - the readers - so much from so deep. Every phase of his life is out in the open for us. His childhood at school and experience with bullying is heartbreaking (and touching to see how appreciative he is of his parents) and so is his 1 year at the Paris Opera school. Also fascinating to understand the challenges a male dancer faces when partnering. The more fun aspect - many of the performances he describes are on YouTube - so it is fun to check it out.

I don't usually read memoirs. This book captured my attention because I trained as a classical ballerina for 10 years (never professionally), and knew the playing field that is David Hallberg's whole life. I had never heard of him until this book came to my attention. I saw him dance at the Kennedy Center in the spring of 2018, and decided I had to read his book. I wondered if a professional dancer could write well, and the answer is "yes". I wondered if he would bring the reader into his world of ballet, and the answer is "yes". And I wondered if he could describe his desolation when a disastrous foot injury nearly ended his career. The answer is "yes". What surprised me was how much of himself he put into the book - his loneliness, his perfection, his terrifying drive to dance, his troubled childhood, his frayed relationships with trainers and ballerinas - it's all out there, without apology or arrogance. He doesn't hide his vulnerabilities, he describes them. Even the picture on the front of the book shows his incredible body (his "instrument of art"), as well as the look of uncertainty on his face and in the placement of his hands. I think he is honest when he writes about himself, his characteristics, and his struggle to regain the use of his foot. When he writes about other people in his sphere, he might err on the side of civility and caution. Most of them are still alive and remain part of the ballet world, and he does not seem interested in criticizing them, which is completely understandable. As another reviewer mentioned, the memoir Hallberg writes 20 years from now (and one can only hope he does), will be quite different from this one. In the meantime, I recommend this book to anyone who loves ballet, and anyone whose creative life depends upon the body they walk in.

This book is beautifully made and I can tell that the author's made this book with love for their Animal Crossing fans. Such an amazing purchase, probably ok next of the best purchases I've made from Amazon. Thank you SO MUCH Nintendo and Anmial Crossing!!!!!!Your true fan,Tanya B.

High points: cute stickers with almost all the villagers, even some lesser known friends. The activities would be fun for the appropriate age range of under 10, but can still be appreciated by older audiences. I'm 22 and pre-ordered this just for the hundreds of stickers of villagers, fruit and bugs and sweet illustrations. The only drawback is some production issues. Our book had one page with slightly misaligned printing that caused the stickers to be cut off awkwardly.Overall, I would say it's definitely worth the $10 (probably not too much more). Especially since animal crossing merch is hard to come by, if you know someone really loves the game and stickers, this would be a great gift.

Yes, I know, how can I call myself a superfan and then give this product only three stars?!Well, I preordered this title back in August when I stumbled across it looking for other animal crossing stuff. I was hyped! With a release date for early 2019, I could only assume that this sticker book would have some new villagers, artwork, etc. for a new Animal Crossing game. When Nintendo announced that there was a new game coming to the switch for 2019, I was psyched! Maybe this new release title would give me something... new? Don't get me wrong...Its a great quality book, tons of stickers, great artwork. But its also very "young" feeling. Obviously Animal Crossing is made for all ages and my 7 yr. old son even plays... The book is just quite literally an activity/sticker book featuring everything we know and love from all the past animal crossing games. (Again, nothing wrong with that) I guess with just a preorder, and then waiting for this so long... it just seems very...random?Nonetheless, I love it. I love animal crossing. But if you were looking for anything more than a children's coloring/activity/sticker pad, this isn't it. And I can see how others would be "mislead" by a new book when we don't even know what date AC is coming to the switch! LOL

I love this a lot more than I thought I would! It’s worth the price and the stickers are good quality✨Also there ARE SO MANYYY

Pros: You get a LOT of stickers and activities to do for the price you’re paying. I bought this to use the stickers in other projects and things such as my journal and planner but if you got this for a child or ACNL fan, it would be a great gift.Cons: This shouldn’t be a big surprise but it doesn’t have every single villager as a sticker. So far, I know for a fact that it does not contain Wolf Link or Ribbot so if you were hoping for them, you’re out of luck. Also, a few (VERY few) of the stickers aren’t completely and cleanly cut so when you take them out to use, you may have to use a little extra force.Overall, this is still a solid purchase and worth the price (I purchased it for around $11-ish total) for any Animal Crossing fan.

I love this sticker book, it's cute and the pages are very thick! There are stickers GALORE. I only have 1 complaint though, my precious Chester is nowhere to be found. I thought of taking off 1 star for that aspect alone however, I know that wouldn't be fair. I would give this 10 stars though if there was but 1 sticker of him somewhere in this book as he is best villager. I also got one for my sister and she loves it as well. I doesn't take my mind off of there not being an Animal Crossing for the Switch yet, but it does take the edge off.

Honestly this is the only thing that's helping me fill the void until the new game comes out. I absolutely adore this sticker book. It's fun to work through it, but its obviously intended for a much younger audience. Still absolutely adorable

Cute activity book. Stickers are great quality and the activities are cute. Received in perfect condition. Great price for a fun art book.

This book was so informative! As I read through the pages I remembered dreams that I had as a child and how they came to past. In my adult years the dreams have continued. Dreams that I couldn’t shake, dreams that God sent to warn me of things to come but I had no understanding of how to pray afterwards. Some dreams were about the good plans that God has for me but again, no understanding of how to pray or prepare for whatb was ahead. I will continue to refer back to this book and pray for wisdom and understanding as I read so that I will see what the Lord would want me to see each time.

It's okay but if you have other books on the subject you might be disappointed.

I chose this rating because the book was very staright forward, very wording, easy to read and understand...I would definetly recommend this book to anyone that is interested in the "Dreamers of dreams"

Great starting place for understanding and positioning ourselves to dream. God has a lot to say to us and dreaming is often over looked

Decoding your Dreams by Jennifer LeClaire is an easy to read book looking at the meanings behind your dreams. The author looks at dreams as either a message from God, from the enemy, or could be just your thoughts being rehashed. She looks at these dreams as being an important part of your day. This book is meant to be a first book for the dreamer to begin to interpret their own dreams and so does not go deep into what your dreams mean. One of the first things to do to decide what God is wanting the dreamer to know is to pray and ask God to help you to know what God is telling you the dreamer. Then the dreamer should make and keep a dream journal. Just as soon as you have the dream you are to write down the dream in as much detail as you can remember: colors, numbers, people, your thoughts during the dream, and just anything that you can remember. At least once per year you should read back though your dreams to see if you get anymore insight into their meanings. The author then tells what different codes mean to different cultures or different families such as dreams of red may mean love, anger or danger to us but in Asian culture it may mean something associated with luck. In the U.S. yellow may mean being cowardly but in Greek culture it could mean sadness. The author states that just as God will speak to the English speaking person in English and not in Spanish that He will also follow cultural norms. She states that because of these differences to be careful in looking up dream codes on the internet because some of these discrepancies could occur. She also states that God will make the meaning known to the dreamer. Possibly the dreamer will awaken with the knowledge but sometimes the dreamer must get this information over time. She does say that the dreamer should understand the dream eventually with prayer because God wants the dreamer to understand.I picked this book because I was having a reoccurring dream that I wanted to know the meaning of it. After reading the book and carefully following the author's advice I am no closer to knowing the meaning than I ever was so I must assume that this is a dream that will require time to understand. I also thought that this book was a little simplistic. It, I felt could have gone a little deeper even for a beginner book. I give this book 3 stars.I received this book from BookLook for this review.

LeClaire reminds us that God spoke in dreams in the Bible and He does so today. Sleep studies indicate we usually dream at least four times each night. She gives tips on how to remember more dreams and suggestions on understanding what the dreams mean. It is important, she says, that we stay within the realm of biblical resources and do not turn to non-Christian resources. Scripture is our constant foundation. If we wonder why God would use dreams to speak to us, LeClaire gives some theories. If we are ready to listen to what God has to say in our dreams, she suggests we ask God to speak to us this way and have an attitude of expectation.LeClaire includes much on dream interpretation, including dreaming about biblical places, numbers, colors, symbols, etc. I was surprised to find out that culture has an influence in that symbols have different connotations for different people groups. For example, there is a hand gesture representing the University of Texas mascot, the head and horns of cattle. But that same gesture represents Satanism in Europe. (Loc. 1469/2812) What a change in meaning. Understanding the cultural aspects of symbols is very important in understanding dreams and I think she is the first I've seen point them out. And then there are the subjective symbols, meaningful to one person but meaningless to another. She is also quick to remind us that not all dreams are from God and gives good ways to be discerning on dream sources. We can evaluate the fruit produced from the dream as well as know that a dream from God would never go against Scripture. She gives several examples of her own dreams to help us understand the process. She reminds us that dreams are subjective and symbols could have different meanings in different situations.Dreams and their interpretation can be a difficult subject. LeClaire's book is very helpful in understanding the entire topic. I've read a few books on dreams yet learned some new and valuable information in this one. I like her emphasis that we ask the Lord as the interpretation belongs to Him. I like her pointing out that our emotional state influences our dream interpretation so it is important to seek out others who are wise in dream interpretation. I like the practical steps she gives.I do recommend this book to Christians who desire to understand why God speaks in dreams and want some insight into discerning the meaning of dreams.I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Great book and well worth the price. The pop-ups and other interactive parts of the book are so super cute. Be careful if you have a kiddo that wants to pull the tabs too hard! This one is a little bit wordy for my 1 year old so we have to cut some parts out, but I like that she'll continue to grow with it and be able to interact with it better as she gets older.

Wonderful, well designed, well thought out, children's book. VERY educational PLUS offers the opportunity for quality time between parent or grandparent and child! I recommend this one over "Maisy's Castle," also by Lucy Cousins. I felt that the Castle book would be destroyed too easily and that the subject matter is not as educational as a book about weather. The fun and learning starts with the cover of the book. In the ad image, do you see the SUN near the tip of Maisy's nose? There is a wheel on the right edge of the cover. Move the wheel and the sun is replaced, in turn, by virtually every common weather phenomenon: rain, snow, etc. Each page spread offers some pop-up or other interactive movement and the opportunity to explore weather with your child or grandchild.

The content of this book is nice and fun. My son loves it. But the pull tabs are an absolute joke. They are so flimsy that two are already broken and the rest are all bent up after only a week. And two of the actions don't work properly. They get stuck and you have to fix it manually. Too bad.

my baby can't get enough of this book, but the pages NEEDS extra tape reinforcement BEFORE the first use. Cause they easily rip off with all pics and movable parts

Although the local bookstore doesn't carry Maisy (apparently her popularity waned), my 2 1/2 year old adores the Maisy books, and this is no exception. This book teaches weather concepts with pull tabs and spin wheels. Very engaging. The tabs and wheels, however, seem to be flimsy compared to some other popup books; the rainbow wheel at the end in particular. But if a toddler will sit down with a book and love the heck out of it, what's a few torn pages?!

My son loves maisy. This one is the best in the maisy series. The pull the tab and extra features are not 'too much' like in some maisy books but just enough to excite the kids and for them to enjoy. Plus, these features are really well designed and well made. Ideal age range would be 3-5 yrs. The flaps and tabs may be too delicate and intricate for children below 3.

Child loves this book but the book we received the Rainbow page was sticking and doesn't really work. It is a great concept but definitely flimsy like another reviewer said.

This is a very cute book. My 4 year old LOVES Maisy. He typically memorizes every Maisy book that we get from the library in about a week! This one, with all of the moveable parts is easily a favorite. His favorite page is the windy page where he gets to make Maisy's hat fly off. He giggles about it every time! This is a book that I don't let 21 month old toddler play with unattended as I don't think it would hold up to her "enthusiasm," but once the child learns to be gentle, it is fantastic fun!

Where Do You Think You’re Going, Christopher Columbus? tells the story of Christopher Columbus. It is made a bit gentle for kids, but does not shy away from things like capturing natives and sending them to Spain to be sold as slaves. Like all books by Jean Fritz, it’s easy to read and understand. I highly recommend this book for kids learning about Christopher Columbus or the opening of exploration of the new world by Europe.

Great books by this author!

This book was eye opening for the kids and me. Christopher Columbus was not the nice adventurer I assumed he was. In fact he was rather vicious. My girls are almost 11yrs old. They both enjoyed learning about Christopher Columbus and it was a quick read for both of them. I believe they finished it in a couple days.

Where Do You Think You're Going, Christopher Columbus? is a book which gives an overview of the man and his voyages. It is friendly, approachable, and witty. It gently pokes fun at Columbus and his ego- and ethnocentric view of the world, like when the author pointed out how shocking Columbus found the naked natives to be, and vice versa. It displays the role his religious beliefs played in his explorations and actions. For example, when his first voyage went well he believed it was a miracle, but when his second voyage went poorly he thought God was punishing him for his prideful behavior. Because of this he took to wearing a scratchy shirt and monk's robe instead of his normal clothes. It includes fun details that make the scenes real, like informing the readers that Columbus took cats on voyages to control the shipboard rats. While it doesn't specifically detail any atrocities, it does tell of Columbus taking native slaves, and of the Spaniards left behind being massacred. Overall, it is a balanced and enjoyable tale to share with students of a broad age range to make this part of history come alive. If you have a chance to hear the recording read by Jean Fritz it is delightful.

I liked how detailed the book was, although some of it was offensive. The dates were accurate and Columbus's ideas may have been true, but the actions were written in a way to normalize it. This teaches children that this event should be celebrated even though it was inhuman. Bartolome de Las Casas wrote down what he witnessed. He says, " They study nothing, after their first landing, but the massacre of the wretches, whom they have so inhumanely and barbarously butchered and harassed with several kinds of torments, never before known, or heard." The experience of the Natives were conveniently left out, silence. With their voice this children's book would give kids nightmares.

Columbus was a lucky man (blessed, he would say). He had to be. Who else could have so much go so wrong and still become famous for the one big thing he did by mistake: discover America...if he did that. Anyway, he had a lot of adventure (or misadventure), and Jean Fritz tells about it and him--not in the traditionally reverent way, but with a humorous and matter-of-fact approach. The Creative Teacher: Activities for Language Arts (Grades 4 through 8 and Up)

Another excellent resource to add background for struggling students. The formate is easy to follow and plan to complete my set as soon as I can.

This is a fun book that should help your youngster develop an interest in American History. It is easy to read an has great illustratiions. You will not be disappointed with this purchase. Look for others by the same author.

Body Respect: What Conventional Health Books Get Wrong, Leave Out, and Just Plain Fail to Understand about Weight, by Linda Bacon

Review

“It is profoundly important to address the shortcomings in health discourse, particularly when misinformation is harming the population. Body Respect is a ground-breaking, dogma-busting book that will change how you think about health forever.”—Christopher Kennedy Lawford, New York Times bestselling author and former UN Goodwill Ambassador for Drug Treatment and Care “Linda and Lucy have written the rare self-help book that places the personal decisions about how to care for ourselves in the larger context of the world's unequal opportunities, judgment, and bias. Body Respect gives us a way to think about our decisions—especially the challenge of valuing ourselves in an indifferent or hostile world—and the concrete steps to feeling better in our bodies right now.”—Deb Burgard, PhD, psychologist, eating disorders specialist, and HAES pioneer “In a world where positive, uplifting and scientifically grounded messages about weight are sorely lacking—Linda Bacon and Lucy Aphramor have given us a bright light of hope. Body Respect is a must-read book for anyone interested in the complex and timely topic of weight.”—Marc David, M.A., author and founder of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating “Drs. Bacon and Aphramor have created a smart, engaging and compassionate guide that exposes why the ‘eat less, exercise more’ weight loss mantra fails so miserably, and how to achieve true health and wellness. Body Respect is transformative for the individual reader, as well as a wakeup call for the real public health crisis America faces: illness and suffering brought on by chronic stress associated with poverty, social inequality, oppression, and stigma.”—Katja Rowell M.D., author of Love Me, Feed Me and childhood feeding specialist, thefeedingdoctor.com “This book is a must-read for those who struggle and who suffer from our culture’s pervasively negative attitude towards fat...and for those who want to help them.”—Anita Johnston, Ph.D., author of Eating in the Light of the Moon“With Body Respect Linda Bacon and Lucy Aphramor build on their impressive contributions to Health At Every Size. Whether you're a seasoned activist or new to the scene, this book will prove an invaluable addition to the literature debunking fatphobic health discourse. Body Respect is an essential tool for those seeking wellbeing without stigma.”—Charlotte Cooper, PhD, psychotherapist

This book was a joy to read. There are so many different diets out there and the diet industry is a multi-billion dollar industry (because we all know diets don't work but we all hope we can be in that 5% success rate). If you're done with diets then this book explains why that's actually the best choice of them all. Very easy to read and reassuring that there is nothing wrong with you, society is perversely behind the times. It's time to enjoy life and enjoy your body now! What I most enjoyed and try to share with others is the seven myths of weight stigma:MYTH 1. Fatness leads to decreased longevity.MYTH 2. BMI is a valuable and accurate health measure.MYTH 3. Fat plays a substantive role in causing disease.MYTH 4. Exercise and dietary restriction are effective weight-loss techniques.MYTH 5. We have evidence that weight loss improves health.MYTH 6. Health is largely determined by health behaviors.MYTH 7. Science is value-free.I did read Bacon’s book HAES and while I did enjoy it, I found Body Respect to be a quicker read and better for mass appeal. There was a very small section on emotional eating in Body Respect. For a book that continues to discuss the importance of mindfulness and deals much more with emotional eating, I highly recommend Women Food and God by Geneen Roth. Roth also talks about being the size that's right for you but does not go as far as Bacon. Good for those who have disordered eating and can’t let go of the idea of dieting. For a book aimed at parents, I recommend Your Child’s Weight by Ellyn Satter. Satter talks about how restrictive diets causes children to gain weight but by allowing your children to enjoy all foods they will end up with a healthy relationship with food and be the weight nature intended them to be.

This book is required reading for parents who want to help prevent eating disorders and help their kids recover from an eating disorder. The "war against obesity" has caused countless casualties when it comes to eating disorders, and this book does an excellent job of removing the stigma around weight and sharing important facts about health independent of weight. I am a big fan of "Health at Every Size," and love the new research and added focus on social justice and environmental factors of health in “Body Respect." In addition to improving our own health and that of our families using HAES, we must find ways to influence social systems and government policy in order to build a truly healthy society for everyone. Linda Bacon's work is critically important as we put one foot in front of the other and do our best to overcome the devastating impacts of fatphobia and healthism.

Wow. Much too political for me. So much 'social injustice' throughout the entire book. I was mildly interested in some of the 'why dieting doesn't work' facts, but I'd also challenge that thin people vs fat people have the same or more health problems. I think the authors just picked the studies they wanted, not all of the studies. When I got to the chapters to eat more vegetables or the many ways to be more active (Park a long way from the store) I knew this was not a book aimed at me. I already eat lots of veggies, walk daily, and do other exercise. They want fat (their choice of terms) people to be comfortable with fat and just try to do better. I think fat people have to do more than try. Stop with the inner aisles of the grocery store. I am slightly high BMI (yes, I think it's a phony number) and aging has made it harder to stay slim but this book was way more elementary, and way more political than I was hoping. I'm supposed to feel sorry for all of the fat people because of their life's condition. Sorry, I just don't buy a lot of it. I could write a lot more but it's not going to be accepted by this crowd.

An excellen NON-diet self-care book. Wonder why diets and a focus on weight loss doesn't work? This book lays out all the science (not simply theories) and also talks about the other aspects that make up the picture of health. Bacon and Aphramor are compassionate and care about health, and they know that diets do more harm than good. This book may change your life forever, as Bacon's earlier work did for me. It's easy to read, not overly jargony and honest while being very based in reality and science.

Do yourself a favor and read everything that Linda Bacon has put her name on.

The emphasis on connection and community in this book is essential. Regardless of your view on fat and health, the authors clearly demonstrate how the self hatred marketed as "individual responsibility" by most diet and fitness firms has achieved the opposite of its supposed goals - and how compassionate, community-centred care by medical practitioners can shift the paradigm. Also, it's an easy and engaging read. Great stuff.

This is a whole new perspective. Just what is needed in our lives and society. My life is forever changed.

Body Respect is a solid companion to Bacon's earlier book, Health at Every Size. Linda Bacon and Lucy Aphramor do an excellent job of deconstructing and demythologizing the often shaky science behind the "obesity epidemic" rhetoric. Their ultimate conclusions—that all bodies are worthy of respect, that fatness is not a death sentence, that our attitudes toward fat are socially constructed, that health behaviors matter more than the number on the scale—are reassuring and empowering to anyone who has struggled on the weight-loss merry-go-round.
