My grandkids (and their parents as I see them drawing on these too) love these books. For the younger ones I prefer the pages that already have designs/figures similar to a coloring book on them to color in. Some of the Scratch and Sketch books do not have this coloring book designs and are black blank pages so note if the one you purchase does or has printed designs. The 13 years and older children prefer to do their own artwork designs and there are sketch books for them as well. I bought these to amuse the children on the airplane and later church and it worked great! They were busy, quiet, and happy drawing. A pencil type tool is included (just no lead in it). They loves to see what color is underneath the black. Plus there are a LOT of choices to choose from. Again note some have the coloring book designs and others are blank pages.

Lovely, I bought if for my little niece and she loves it. Great paper quality (since you can draw on it). It gives you little facts about different pets. It comes with a pencil to scratch the black (ink?) and then a colorful pet is revealed. So cool! See some images below. The last pages are blank for you to draw (or write) something on it. I really like this.

These are wonderful books for kids. I cannot say enough good about them. They are unique and creative and my one concern was when they scratch off the black that it would get everywhere but somehow it doesn't. These are great quality strong binders thick pages and lots of fun things to do. I highly recommend this for any child of any age really. I did one of the pages with my daughter and had a blast myself :-)

My 8 year old loves these scratch books. Some of them require you to draw your own picture entirely for scratch which is great, but not for beginners. This book has a picture and some words to the left and on the right you'll find a black page with a picture made with a gray line. In the photo you can see this line is rainbow colored. You'd have to scratch along the gray line to get this effect. My daughter likes to trace the picture and then draw doodles around the edges or markings on the animals (collars, hearts, etc...

It was fun for my 5 year old, but she got through it rather quickly. There didn't seem to be much to do for her. More pages would have been nice.

So much fun for young children! Love that they have white pages they can color with crayons/markers or the black scratch pages. We will be buying several different versions. Excellent for long car rides or waiting in the doctors office. I used this product with a 6 year old girl and a 3 year old boy.

I stumbled on these books while searching for scratch and reveal projects that my 7 year old grandson asked for. This is my second purchase of one of these books! He absolutely loves them! I read the reviews from previous buyers and it is beneficial to purchase the age appropriate books. Some you have to look at the picture on previous page and freehand draw. These are trace and reveal. The quality is wonderful and definately a great item for long car travels! Book is hardcover bound and no mess and just the right size! More purchases in my future!

My Kids LOVED this scratch and sketch! Hours of fun. We take it with us everywhere! They love the colors, they love scratching to see what design is underneath and also designing their own scribbles. A great investment for some quiet time. I love that there are a variety of themes to choose from. It helps with their curiosity. I bought more!!!

I read this book before traveling to Dubrovnik for 5 days, and I frequently referred to it as I set out to explore; my copy is now dog-eared and worn. I felt prepared and well informed about decisions I would make while in Croatia, due to the information I gleaned from the book. I ate at several of the recommended restaurants, and honestly, I would not have even FOUND a couple of those places without having read about them. I had a drink at the Buza bar on the outside wall/cliffs, and once again, I would have had no clue it was there, if I hadn't read it here. I swam in the sea at the "beach" area (cement and boulders just outside the walls), another "hidden" place, that I learned about from this book. I followed the recommendation to hire a private guide for a more focused tour, something that added a great deal to my Dubrovnic experience. I decided to forgo visiting Montenegro, Bosnia, or any of the nearby islands after reading about what those venues have to offer. The information provided on those destinations was very useful in informing my decision, because in order to enjoy seeing those places as well, I would have felt rushed and doubt I would have been able to be immersed in the experiences. In conclusion, I'm extremely happy with the book, as it was extremely informative and influenced me to make decisions that helped me accomplish my goals for this visit.

This book is a delight to read--well-illustrated, well-organized, and written in a clear, easy-to-read style. Production quality is also excellent. It works well as a textbook to accompany Alex Filippenko's 96-lecture video course "Understanding the Universe" published by the Teaching Company. It contains enough mathematical formulae to satisfy physics students but not so many as to discourage novices.

Perfect for an advanced college-level class.

This book presents an excellent overview of our knowledge about the Solar System. The planets, their moons, asteroids and meteorites, Kuiper belt objects, and some information about exoplanets are presented. Many high-quality illustrations are present.

The content of the book is interesting and informative. It's written at a level that would be readable by most high school or college undergraduate students, but with a great deal of information.I'm thinking that this copy must have sat on a shelf somewhere for a few years. While it hasn't happened yet, I think the binding will eventually crack.

This is a hugely informative compendium of current knowledge of our solar system. Included is up-to-date science, compiled from the missions of all the modern spacecraft, of all (make that most) of the planets plus all of their known moons; plus comets, asteroids, solar winds, magnetic fields, and everything else present in the solar system. A bonus is found in the beginning chapters of the book, which present the history of astronomical discovery by earthbound explorers, and also a large chapter on Earth itself. Included are informative treatises on the Earth's geology, topology, and atmosphere, setting up equally fascinating examinations of those topics on the other planets. Thus we get up-to-date and in-depth coverage of everything from the bizarre volcanoes of Venus to the encrusted oceans of Europa to the pink smog of Titan. Just watch out for some sneaky politics in the chapter on the Earth, as coverage of atmospheric changes leads to some not wholly appropriate comments on the political side of global warming. And while the book is uniformly fascinating and informative, one humbug for me is a nearly complete lack of coverage for Pluto. This is likely because we haven't yet been able to send a spacecraft there, and also because the creators of this book have followed the currently accepted scientific theory of Pluto as a non-planet that doesn't deserve the attention of the "real" planets. (In fact, Pluto is actually missing from the book's lists of planets of the solar system). Come on, cut the little guy some slack already! [~doomsdayer520~]

This book is written in a clear and easy to read style. If you are a novice on astronomy you will still be able to understand the text. At the same time this book offers enough in-depth and up-to-date information to satisfy the person who is more knowledgeable on the subject. The text is richly illustrated, with a multitude of photographs, charts, schematics, drawings etc.The first three chapters of the book deal with general subjects like the history of astronomy, the forming of impact craters, the principles of volcanism in the solar system, the (presumed) existence of water on several solar objects, the characteristics of atmospheres of planets and Titan etc. etc. After this there are separate chapters about the earth, our moon, the asteroids, comets and all planets. Unexpectedly, although understandable in view of their similarities, Uranus and Neptune are put together in one chapter. Even more peculiar is the fact that there is not a separate chapter about Pluto and its companion Charon. They are described in four pages in one of the general chapters. So Pluto is not treated as a real planet but more as an object of the Kuiper-belt. The last chapter of the book is called "Worlds colliding" and deals with the impact in 1994 of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 into Jupiter, collisions of comets with the sun, existing impact craters on earth and the chances of disaster by incoming asteroids/meteoroids.All in all I find this a very nice book that should appeal to both beginners in the field as to the more knowledgeable "amateur-astronomers" among us. In this way it is a "well balanced" book.

I purchased this book for two things, it's small size, and it's high reviews. It's one of the most useful purchases of the Dover science and engineering series I've had in supplementing my formal education. As I'm finishing the first year of a general chemistry sequence, I found reading this book to be an extremely useful review. It's prose is considerably more engaging, and the historical narrative is much, much, much more clearly laid out than in almost any college text. That point is useful in that it helps put into perspective what only limited lab time can barely illuminate. I didn't quite grasp the ingenuity of the experiments and the magnitude of the breakthroughs in my assigned textbook. The narrative was lost in the prose of a modern text, as was some of the continuity of the subject in between problem sets and tests. But The Development of Chemical Principles was a great supplement, and it's practice problems are useful in gauging your knowledge. I'll agree here with other reviewers that it seems the average knowledge of the average State U student doesn't seem to be quite what it used to be a half century ago. I'm glad I know that, it's a strong motivator.As many students studying general chemistry are also studying calculus and physics, Dover has other books which are similarly sized for easy transport and similarly old to provide a window into what previous students learned and knew. Mechanics by Dover was a great supplement to my mechanics course, as was The Essential Calculus. Great books at a great price, if you're paying hundreds, even thousands of dollars for an education, do not pass up these cheap books to further yourself.

Another gem from Dover books!In nine chapters and 384 pages, we have an excellent undergraduate study in the noble science of chemistry.This was once an actual college text. Although published in 1969, the vast majority of the data within is still current. In fact, for its size, this volume is not only more compact, it contains as much if not more information as a contemporary text. A current textbook will cost you over $100, ...and two years later you will find the SAME text for $5 in the used-book store!Yes, for its small size, this book contains a large quantity of information that you will not see in a first-year General Chemistry text. Much of the data within barely covered in the texts for the advanced courses.Dover Books also publishes a much thicker text by Linus Pauling, that you may also find highly useful, if you enjoy this one.

Generally the old school chemists are steeped in the fundamentals, to an extent that we youngsters may never be. In part this is due to deficiencies in modern chemistry textbooks that sacrifice coverage of the basics for the flashy color photos and bulleted lists that adorn and crowd the pages of the unending flow of annual "new and improved" editions. Most new editions come with the justification that they include whatever material is "hot" at the moment, and sometimes more color. Chemistry may have changed a lot in the time since this book was first published, but the fundamentals that it covers (very clearly and concisely by the way) remain the same (which is an important reason why chemistry is a science). A reason why this book remains available in reprint edition is because it still has value. Most modern texts are essentially worthless (at least as judged by college bookstore buyback) once a new edition is released. This book is a bargain, and is highly recommended to anyone wanting to know more about chemistry. I used this book as a supplement to organic chem, p-chem and inorganic chem courses, and it served me well.

I really enjoyed this heartwarming love story. I loved how it started in the diner and then just pulled me in to watch them fall in love. Kayley is a sweetheart! Natalie Ann never fails and I recommend her books and series!

Easy read, you fall in love with the main characters right away. Natalie has a fan of her writings in me!

Shelby McDonald was pregnant when she lost her Navy husband to an accident. Kayla only knew her father from photographs of him in his naval uniform. One morning, has the enter the cafe for breakfast, Kayla runs to a table where two men are seated yelling "daddy". One is in his dress uniform, the other is in a navy t-shirt and camos. Embarrassed, Shelby explains that Kayla lost her father and that the uniform was like the one of her father in the photo.Jared Hawk was a Navy Seal that was hurt in an explosion while on tour that killed most of his men. As he struggles to come to terms that his Seal days are over, he has become an Engineering Professor at the Naval Academy. He suffers from PTSD and survivor's guilt. The encounter of a little girl thinking he was her father, turns into a friendship with her mother that develops into something more.

Jared Hawk was a Navy seal. A man devoted to serving his country and protecting all. Then he was injured by a bomb during service, he lost a lot of his hearing in one ear and sight in one eye, so he will never be able to be back in the field again. He now is a 30 year old teacher for the military.Shelby was abused as a child, ran into the arms of the first man who would take her away. Her husband died in the military, now Shelby is a widowed 23 year old mother determined to be self sufficient.Can these two fill the void neither of them realized they had?This is a beautiful telling of new beginnings, New discoveries, and finding yourself. This is a well written romance with a HEA.

I love that this collection of books are stand alone stories with new characters rather than a series that continues on. You can read any of them and not worry about missing one. This is a story about a sexy solider that is injured in the line of duty and a widowed mother. Both have their own demons to escape and both are stubborn and determined to do it on their own, but find that love finds a way of making everything better in the end.

This short stories series is becoming a great quick read. Jared is a wounded Army veteran who is just trying to get his life back together when an adorable little girl calls him Daddy while he is having lunch. Shelby the girls mother lost her husband and then found out she was pregnant. She is getting by with the help of friends. These two fall in love in the most simplest of ways. The story is sweet and a great quick read.

This is such sweet story!I'm always love a story with a military veteran as the hero in the story.Shelby and Jared meet when Kayla runs towards Jared in a restaurant and yells Daddy! Wow! How awkward and yet so cute and sweet.The story moves right along with Jared and Shelby getting to know each other and each working through their struggles that life has given them, while they develop feelings for one another. Jared is a great hero!This was a sweet read short read that I enjoyed and would recommend!I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review of this book.

Two year old Kayla never knew her father and has only seen a photo of him in his dress uniform. On going into a cafe whilst their car is being fixed, Kayla makes a beeline for a stranger shouting Daddy! Her mother is mortified but a subsequent meeting, means the ice has been broken between them and a relationship ensues. A well written story with a little angst - both Jared and Shelby have to move on with their lives and make peace with their pasts before they can have their HEA.I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
