The recipes are easy to read and follow and pictures show how lovely the finished product will look. I disagree on the claim younger cooks can make the recipes themselves on their own. That is not a problem as my great nieces and nephews and I have a great time in my kitchen when they visit. For that I consider this book perfect. My 12 year-old great-niece and ten year-old nephews made the blueberry cheesecake tarts and the mini apple cakes for a youth get-together at the church (we of course had to taste them to ensure they were done correctly.) We also made the Perfect Pie Pops for ourselves. When they went home after church that Sunday they were already talking about what we would make the next month. Although I passed my tween years, teens and young adult long ago I made the Frozen Lemonade for myself. No matter what your age Custom Confections is a great recipes to enjoy and share. Also young bakers will love the decorating aspects of these confections. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.Decorating tips and the fact that most of these recipes use packaged or homemade cake mixes as a basis make these recipes easy and fun to make.

It is a beautifully written and crafted cookbook that claims it contains 40 recipes that are “easy†enough that kids can make them.The recipes, indeed, are well laid out and easy to follow. And the supporting pictures are stunning examples of food photography.I have no doubt that someone with experience, or a professional, would find it an invaluable tool, especially for entertaining children of all ages.But being a mother of six children, two of them very gifted in the kitchen, I find only a few recipes that I would call simple enough that a child can actually accomplish with little help and have turn out anywhere near its representation in the photographs.With that said, I think the photos are exquisite, the recipes are fun and festive, and the overall book is well put together.I’d use it to prepare for my children’s next birthday parties.
I really love this book. It is beautifully done and the recipe ideas are perfect for parties or other celebrations where one is pressed for time and money. Very colorful illustrations and clear directions. The simplicity of the recipes and the clarity of the instructions for the recipes was quite useful. I will use some of these ideas and recipes when I begin baking again! Thank you Ms. Besel!
